Buddhism
The next religion in ancient India was Buddhism. Buddhism is based on the teachings of the Buddha, which means “Awakened One.” The Buddha was a man who lived in India from about 563 to 483 B.C.E. Before he earned the title of Buddha, he was a young prince named Siddhartha Gautama. When the prince was only 29, he walked away from his royal life and went in search of spiritual peace. He learned about truths that changed his life forever. Once he shared these truths, the prince began the religion of Buddhism. Buddhism was much different than Hinduism though. It wasn’t based on complicated rituals and beliefs in many gods, like Hinduism was. They also rejected the caste system that Hinduism created. Buddhism was mostly about finding peace in the world and having no worries.
